Central America is the southernmost, isthmian portion of the North American continent, which connects with the South American continent on the southeast. Central America is bordered by Mexico to the north, Colombia to the southeast, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Central America consists of seven countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. The official language majority in all Central American countries is Spanish, except in Belize, where the official language is English. Mayan languages constitute a language family consisting of about 26 related languages. Guatemala formally recognized 21 of these in 1996.
Central America has a tropical humid climate. It has no real winter; even the coldest month averages above 18 °C, with summers of 27 to 28 °. The average annual temperature range is lower than the usual daily range, a characteristic which is markedly different from most of North America. Rainfall at 1,100 to 2,000 mm is high and regular.
CENTRAL AMERICA HEALTH SCIENCE UNIVERSITY (Belize)
The Central American Health Sciences University (CAHSU) Belize Medical College was founded in 1996. The University is located in Belize City, the Capital of Belize, located in Central American Region. Previously known as the British Honduras, Belize lies on the east coast of Central America in the heart of the Caribbean Basin. The country borders Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and is flanked by the Caribbean Sea to the east. Belize is a land of pristine beaches and a semi tropical climate. It is a small, politically stable Commonwealth country, with English as its official language.
The University’s location in Belize City allows easy access to the United States, Central and South and South America and Mexico. CAHSU is a Medical School that follows a Curriculum patterned after US Medical School’s programs. The University ensures its students receive a well rounded education, allowing them to develop into skilled and responsible Physicians well equipped to enter the competitive field of Medicine upon graduation.
The overall climate of Belize can be described as sub-tropical. The humidity while high is seldom oppressive for long and is most noticeable along the coast. The mean annual humidity is 83%, but many days the humidity is masked by the cooling sea breezes.
